IBIS Nanoindentation System

We manufacture and sell the IBIS nanoindentation system. This scientific instrument measures the mechanical properties of materials at a sub-micron scale. The most common application is the measurement of hardness of thin coatings, such as can be found on cutting tools. The instrument can also be used for the measurement of properties of small volumes of materials such an individual grains in a ceramic or a metal, as well as biological materials such as teeth and bone. Typical users are large research laboratories in industry, universities and government organisations. The instrument has its origins in work done at CSIRO during the 1990’s. They are sold world-wide. It is a precision device with sub-nanometre resolution, and has a traceable calibration to international standard references.
